The search for a diver, who has gone missing during a deep sea technical dive in Sodwana Bay, north of KwaZulu-Natal, has now been extended as far south as St. Lucia.

National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) spokesperson Craig Lambinon says the man believed to be from Gauteng was reported missing on Monday afternoon.

The NSRI and police search and rescue team took part in an extensive search without results.

Lambinon says the search has been expanded over the past two days.

On Tuesday, a South African Air Force (SAAF) helicopter from SAAF 15 Squadron with police divers onboard continued in the extensive search efforts, assisted by NSRI St Lucia rescue craft.

The search has extended south to beyond St Lucia with the hopes that the man surfaced and is adrift at sea.

There are still no signs of the missing diver and an ongoing search is continuing.
