Seaquest Pro Unlimited

I am considering a Seaquest Pro Unlimited BCD. I have been diving in a Seaquest ADV IV for 15 years and am looking to move up to the Pro Unlimited. I would appreciate any feedback from current users of this model. I have been diving for over 30 years. I am currently working at the US Embassy in Athens, Greece and I can't easily check out gear at local dive shops.

Any and all information is appreciated. The advertisements for this BCD sound very good.

It's a well made, stable and verstatile BCD. It has lots of lift without being overly bulky and it's comfortable with a heavy tank. You can mount a twin-7 on it without it becoming unstable and anything up to a 15 litre tank is comfortable. If you're looking to wear heavier tanks then you might get some roll and wobble with it but I can't be certain from personal experience. The least valuable feature are the pockets. They're hard to access with any kind of thick suit on. I also prefer adjustable D rings but atleast the D rings are bent so you can grab them easily.

I use the Sea-quest pro QD+SL which is the cheaper version of the pro unlimited. The Designs of the BC are virtually Identicle. That being said I absolutely love my BC its comfortable (next to no squeeze) and stable. The inflator is the best I have ever used, its very responive. The weight pockets are easy to load and dump and the surelock system is great. The only real drawbacks are that the BC only has a single tank band and the carrying strap is sometimes in the way of the tank valve (easy to fix cut the darn thing off....just kidding), also it does take up a lot of room in a dive bag.

I was actually looking at the Pro Unlimited but I felt the 300 USD difference wasn't worth it for more lift, D rings, and a knife.

Of the 3 BCDs that I own, I use and like the Pro Unlimited the best. I concur with what has already been written - it is well made and exceptionally comfortable. My BCD is one of the older models with just the velcro weight pockets but I have never had any problems and haven't even thought about upgrading to the surelock system. IMO, the only thing that is a drawback are the two small plastic D rings positioned over the cumberbund area. I used to clip off a spare-air unit to these rings when I taught the Deep Specialty, but a collision with a boat ladder in heavy seas broke one of the plastic D rings rendering it usless - Superglue didn't live up to it's name in this instance! According to Aqualung/SeaQuest I could send it in for repair but I didn't want to do without the BCD for the couple of months they estimated. Anyway, regardless of the plastic D rings, the Pro Unlimited is the absolute best jacket-style BCD I have ever used. Don't think you'll go wrong with it - and it will give you YEARS of service! Mine has over 1800 dives on it and going strong!

I have found the Pro Unlimited to be very well constructed. It is a large, heavy, and bulky BCD, but it does not appear to have much inherent buoyancy.

The only problem I have had with it is the pockets come open by themselves while underwater. I have lost several items that were buoyant when the pockets have come open and I did not realize it until the end of the dive.

I previously had an Oceanic Probe and preferred it to the Pro Unlimited, but that is my .02...
