I need help. I just bought a SeaQuest Black Diamond. Have used it for 6 dives so far. I feel I already have the weight right; 4 in the rear and 8 in ditchable.
I am very happy with it as I can keep horizontal or vertical. My problem now is if I am not moving and am horizontal I have a tendency to roll to one side. I have no problem when vertical. It is very slight but is betting frustrating.

I have nothing on me to make me heavier on one side. Weight is equal, no clipped on stuff, just the basic scuba setup.

Anybody have any ideas on this?

If nothing is out of balance, then check the actual weights that you are using. One could be a bit heavier than another. Check your weights one at a time on a good scale or a set of center balances.

Will do.But is the system really that sensitive? What if I have to bring a ppony bottle or something?

The air can shift to one side. I dive with a black diamond and if I just look a little to my left the air shifts.

To counter-act air shift, try using a little less weight. Maybe drop a pound at a time. If you can dive with less weight then you will have less air in the BCD.

As for a pony... it could roll you. After a few dives you should be able to compensate.

Last year, I was diving in a Genesis Recon BCD for a couple of weeks. The bladder has 75 pounds of lift. The slightest turn of my head and I would get rolled. I got used to it, I didn't like it, but I got used to it. My current BCD has 26 pounds of lift, a smaller bladder, and no air shift.

I hope some of this helps.

I"m with AL...
Have the Black Diamond and sometimes get more air on one side than the other. Just have to Lift your body about 45 degrees to let the air even out, then back to horizontal. As Al also mentioned, be sure that your weight is minimized so that your air volume can be minimal as well.

Another example of why one should dive with BP and wings. No fancy pockets needed, no need to worry about which hook and loop to fasten. and totally module!

Sorry for your situation. Did you buy the BC before or after reading all these posts on why you should buy a BP & wing design. Just cause it looks old doesnt mean you have to muck it up with plastic and velcro.

Liokai- you were diving in hawii with a 75 lbs bc? How many sling bottles did you have? What size are your doubles?--Wait a minute that BC cant even use doubles... Why did you need so much lift?

Anyways I am glad to hear that you are now on the right path!

How is this an example of why you should dive with a backplate and (back-inflate) wings? They still have the back inflate and the air can still move from side to side.

I'm glad some of you are so thrilled with your bp/w setup, but don't understand why you now feel compelled to force your opinion and experience onto everyone else.

I dive both setups, depending on the gear required for the dive and even on how my mood strikes me that day. I like both, but truly do not see any overwhelming advantage (for ALL cases) to either.

I dont have any problems with weight, but when i use a pony bottle strapped to my tank i have to shift weight to my left side to compensate.I think that is the case with most bc's though.
