Ok I'm a fairly new diver. I'm getting ready to take a week long trip to Cozumel and want to get my digital photo stuff together for the trip. I have Canon A620. I really want to get the Inon D2000, but don't have $850 bucks right now. I'm thinking of getting a sealife sl960D or Sunpak G as an interim strobe until 1. I get more experience diving, and 2. I get more money. I really don't want to dive with a camera with 18" of tray, arm, and strobe hanging off of it until I am more experienced with diving. The Sealife and Sunpak are much more compact.

Is my thinking off here? Any thoughts on the two Strobes as to which is better?

I have the Sealife... I used it in Coz last month, it is a good strobe for the money with plenty of power. However the Fiberoptic sensor is a little tricky to mount to my A520/wpdc60. I originally mounted it to canons stock flash diffuser but there was so much ambient light that it wouldn't trigger the strobe. After a little trial and error I had decent results with it mounted to the stock Sealife mount AND shading the sensor with my hand! Try to get wet with it before you travel so you have an idea of how to mount it. Electrical tape helped me out. Also the flash on high power is very strong, anything within 3-4 feet needs no more than 1/4 power.
It is definitely a good, solid strobe... for the money! However, I'm also working towards a Ike ds-50 or 125 for my G6

this is with the Sealife... the strobe could've been aimed better but still decent for first time use.

I think SeaYoda uses the SunPak...might want to look in his gallery...

I use the SunPak too...my second one actually, after my first one flooded...oh well...

Handy little strobe :)
