Hi everyone, I have a brand new PT-059 Tough housing, and a sea & sea YS-D2J strobe. Problem I’m having is the strobe will not fire. Have done all the usual, batteries on both are fully charge. Camera flash is working, strobe is turning on. I have tried TTL and manual on the strobe. Tried 3 different cables. Etc etc. Also have a blocker in the cable mount, as I’m only using one strobe, anyone out there have any other suggestions I can try? Thanks.

Ist thing I would try is turning on the strobe, setting it to TTL (without anything attaced to the strobe) and then shining a flashlight into the fiber optic plug port. That should cause the strobe to fire. If it does, then the problem is with you camera or the trigger in your housing. If the strobe does not fire from the flashlight beam, then your strobe is defective.

I highly recommend calling Devon at Pacific Housing Repair. He's an official S&S repair tech and extremely knowledgeable. He will give you free advice on things to check that will probably tell you what the problem is. Then you can ship it to him for repair if need be.

Instead of a flashlight use your TV remote. The IR beam of your remote is perfect for triggering strobes.

Or, if the camera strobe is indeed firing, remove the camera from the housing, aim the camera strobe at the YS strobe sensor and take a pic, both strobes, camera and YS, should fire.
