I used my mini reefmaster for 4 yrs and never used a strobe. The primary reason is that with the mini I just kept it in my pocket till I saw something to shoot then out it cam for a shot or 2 and back into the pocket it went. I think that is a great way to get some shots in while you are learning to dive. After you have 50+ dives and buoancy is second nature then add the strobe setup. It will mess with your streamlining but by then your breathing will have settled down to where it won't shorten you dives that much. For most wide angle shots (10 feet + ) the strobe doesn't do much of anything anyway. I guess it depends on if you are going to be doing macro in which case a strobe is an excellent idea but buoancy will be a huge issue. Too many divers drop onto the coral while composing the shot. Just takes a lot of experience to overcome task loading - camera, focus, buoancy, wait for right moment, snap. . Perhaps my suggestions are completely uneccessary and you already have overcome being an airhog and are perfectly in control of your buoancy, and have your streamlining all proper. If so Ignore my comments which are based upon assuming you are going through the same sort of learning curve that I did. Not always a fair assumption. Good luck and have fun diving
