I used a sea elite for my confined water dives. All I can say for it in retrospect was that it filled with air, and it allowed me to go neutral. Not much more ya can say...

would you trust it in a real dive?

sea elite stuff is certainly cheap...

i bought a sea elite wet suit about two years ago and i still use it
for all my dives. it's held out nicely.

can't say anything about their BC's, though, as i've never used one.

AFAIK Sea Elite is a in-house brand name for Divers Supply - the products themselves are all sourced at different manufacturers. eg my "Sea Elite" drysuit is actually a Typhoon drysuit from the UK, their manifolds are from Asia, BCs from somewhere else again, etc.

so what you are saying a sea elite bcd is actually made by a brand name company but just without there name on it?

Not necessarily manufactured by a brand-name company - but probably by a manufacturer that makes brand-name gear, if that makes sense. Lots of different BCs for different manufacturers come out of the same factories.

There's no single manufacturer called "Sea Elite" - it's just a collection of different generic gear under a common label. I wouldn't buy a BC from them without sighting it first.

Well, due to the length of and the number of confined water dives, and the fact that you are diving in a situationaly safe environment, it's hard to say whether I'd trust it in open water. I mean, they've made BC's for a while, and there havent been any recalls under that brand name that I've heard of caused by massive numbers of divers falling ill or being injured from using their gear. So we can only presume that their gear is relatively safe. I'm not sure I'd go that route though, as I tend to prefer back inflation, and I've never seen a back inflation SeaElite. (And nope, not touting DIR either, but in some respects, they've got the right idea.)

i havent seen anyone but Divers Suply sell Sea Elite stuff. as far as i
know, Divers Suply is the only store that carries Sea Elite stuff.

Yes, they are a good quality BC. And to answer your question about using them in an open water dive, yes, I own one and have had absolutely no problems with it.

As for who makes them, it is the same manufacturer that makes OMS and Dive Rite BCs. (found that out after alot of research).

Dive Safe!!!
