Most people remove them, as they’re a great way to hold salt water inside during a rinse and potentially conceal bubbling. I’ll look around and see if I have any in the junk pile.

I'll add another vote to "you don't need them" and probably don't want them. All of my hose-protectors are sitting in junk-boxes.
