I just noticed on my MK25 today that the turret where the hoses to the second stages and power inflater attatch seems to be fairly loose. The turret while under no pressure seems to be able to move very freely and also be able to move up and down about the width of a straight pin. It can also rock a little bit. Do I have much concern that the nut that holds it may have come loose? I tested the regulator out on a full tank, and under pressure the play goes away and there is no signs of leaking. If anyone has experience with the MK 25 and can let me know if this all seems normal, I would sure appreciate the response.
Thanks,
Walt

Sounds perfectly normal to me. I just checked my wife's Mk20 and the width of a straight pin looks right both in in and out as well as wobble.

I'm sure this is not the right thing to do, but on my MK-20 the turret was so loose as to leak. Started to take the reg. apart then noticed something. I took the LP plug on the end of the turret off and looking inside I could see a hex head. Took a allen wrench and tighten it, took care of the problem.

As long as you just snugged it up (as it should be), that should be OK. The torque spec on that is 70 in-lp (5.5 ft-lb) and too much torque can damage that connection with fairly catastrophic results.

I did see a Mk10 one time that had more play at that connection than I thought was right. Turned out a nylon washer was installed incorrectly.

....maybe take your reg to your LDS, and compare it to a brand-new reg as see how they compare for a correct frame-of-reference ? You seem to imply the reg's feel has changed...it's not supposed to change but you may need a refresher to remind yourself how the reg is really supposed to be. My Atomics are pretty similiar to the MK25, and they most definitely DON'T exhibit what your reg is exhibiting...tight as a drum....buttery smooth turret operation...no 'wobble'.....I don't even want to think about the ramifications if your turret popped loose mid dive...get it checked !

Awap is right on the mark with his caution. The torque setting for that piece is very light. I saw one where the owner 'tightened it just a bit' but I still had to back it off quite a bit to come near to snugging it to spec.

This does not make sense, the turret bolt is accessed from the other side, but I guess the hex opening in the center goes all the way through the bolt, so you must have been grabbing it from the bottom, not the head. You would have had to turn it counterclockwise to tighten. I never heard of one of those bolts coming loose; usually the big problem is overtightening them and distorting the hollow bolt. I guess the guy that rebuilt yours was being "extra" careful.

I've got a brand new MK25, only been used in the swimming pool for about an hour. The swivel is perfectly smooth, the turret "wobbles" very slightly, and there is asbsolutely no sliding up and down on the turret. You should probably get it checked.

Yes, if you remove the lp plug from the end cap of the turret you should be able to insert an allen wrench into the turret retainer. As Matt said, you must torque it counter clockwise or you will loosen it.

Most click typed torque wrenches are not calibrated counter clockwise, so use a deflecting beam type. You can probably just go to an auto parts store and borrow everything you need. Bring a clean cloth and a small bottle of alcohol to clean the allen wrench part that will go down into the turret.

Just wanted to thank everyone for their input. I erred on the side of caution and took the reg set to my lds. He was very helpfull and went ahead and opened it up to check it out and replace the o-ring. He gave it the thumbs up. Upon reassembly we found that the play hadn't changed noticeably at all. According to him. there is a shim or spacer in there as well and he will change that when we do a full annual on it.
Thanks, Walt
