For those of you who use a Scubapro MK25/S600 reg, what setting do you turn the breathing resistance knob? I've always just kept it all the way out and left it there (easiest breathing setting). I think that you are also supposed to store it this way. 2 people told me to do it this way. One person told me to turn the knob all the way in (hardest to breath) and keep it that way while diving. So, I was just wondering what people do. Thanks.

Why would anyone want to dive it at the hardest breathing position?

Some people used to say, a long time ago, that it saves air...it doesn't. Extra work makes you consume more air.

Dive it easy breathing as possible without free flow.

In my opinion it makes sense to tune an S600 (or any other comparable adjustable reg) so that it is just short of freeflowing when the knob is all the way out. It gives you the maximum range of adjustment on the light rather than heavy end of the scale and ensures you can get max performance out of your reg in what ever position you are in during the dive.

So...amongst other things, it depends on how the reg is tuned.

Also, you should call it "S600 question" or "G250/S600 question" as the S600 second can also be paired with the the Mk 17 and whether it is a Mk 17 or a Mk 25 makes no difference. Plus the G250/G250HP/G250V have the same adjustment with the question being just as valid.

Yeah, I didn't understand this comment either when I first purchased the reg. The comment actually came from an instructor. The reality is that at the time I was brand spanking new and used to breathing only rental regs, so to me it was all good enough. I just made work whatever was handed to me rental reg and rental bc's.

I always wanted to ask this question and see what others did, but I thought it might be a dumb question. Now I just realize that while it may be a matter of personal preference, I still do want to know what others typically do on their dives with this reg.

I don't know how to change the original title of the thread as such. Sorry if it is unclear. If mods can help to change it as per Aquamaster's comment, I am totally cool with that.

Thanks.

But a Mk25 and a Mk10 may make a difference. I have a G500 (predecessor of the S600 - same design) on a Mk10 whioch I tune on the verge of freeflow with tank pressure of 500 psi. So, on a full tank I have to crank the knob in about 1/2 turn to prevent freeflow as the Mk10 does not have as stable an IP as the Mk25. I dive with the knob as far out as possible without getting a freeflow. Current, surge, and some entries mau cause freeflow and require a little backing off. I crank the knob all the way in when I soak the reg if not on a tank and then store it with the knob all the way out.

Thanks for the reminder. I've only soaked my regs a few times without being pressurized on a tank, but I always forget to crank the knob all the way back in when soaking. Doh! I remember reading this at one point recently, and thinking I gotta remember this tidbit.
