Hey all,

Bought a mk 25/s600 off ebay the other day from a listing that showed a couple surface scratches where (so the seller says) the servicing tech's wrench slipped and dinged the fins near the lp ports.

Pic posted below, looks like just a touch of the brass is exposed where the plating was chipped. Picture is clickable to a larger image:

Are these just cosmetic and I got myself a really killer deal, or am I hosed? The guy says that this happened about 2005 and he has used the reg ever since, just has cleaned and maintained it. Over the phone, he seems like a straight shooter and offered to refund my $$ if I took it to a scubapro tech and they said it was unsafe.

Anyone out there have an opinion on whether this is diveable or dangerous?

Thanks in advance...

It's not a problem at all.

If it really bothers you, the dealer cost on a new swivel cap is around $25.00.

I'm no expert, but minor cosmetic damage if you ask me, They can get these kinds of scratches with use surge pushes you into a rock or something. Other then that scratch the reg look like new.

In any case, even if the reg looks new you should always have any used reg that you buy serviced before you dive with it. The defects that mater are the ones hidden inside

I'm a reg tech, and to me it just looks cosmetic. If it bothers you, you can take it to an authorized Scubapro dealer and have the cap replaced for $42.00 MSRP. I wouldn't charge you to actually replace it, but other techs might.
One thing that bothers me, if the person you bought it from was the original owner, he could have had it replaced under warranty, at no charge. Perhaps you should ask the seller about that. And if the reg tech did it while servicing it, it should have been replaced before the costomer ever picked it up.
Other than that, the MK25, in my opinion, is one of the best regulators made today. I've been diving it since it was a MK20, the only difference is the intermidiate pressure adjustment.

Safe Diving!

Thanks guys. I was fairly confident it was cosmetic, but the possibility that I can have it replaced for a mere 25-42 bucks is even better. Going to pick the reg up on monday and hopefully dive it in december. I'll keep eveyone posted.
