My impression is it could be a range of services & it might be hard for you to tell what they did. If it is a good shop, they should tell you what they plan to do and return used parts if you are paying for them. If it is warrenty work, I've seen it suggested that they have to keep the parts but I'm a bit skeptical about that. For $30.00, either it is warrenty work and that is just the labor charge or they don't plan on using many parts. Not changing a bunch of parts is not necessarily all bad. With good cleaning and user care; rubber parts could last 3-5 years easily. I'm over 3 years on my Mk20/G500 and expect to go further. But if it is under warrenty, then all SP recommended annual service parts should be renewed. And unless they tell you otherwise, I guess you just have to have faith.

I have a ScubaPro MK10 and they tear the whole thing apart, first and second stages. I remember they replace several small o-rings and a few other parts. After they re-assemble the second stages they have to tune them so they provide air but don't free flow constantly.

You have to ask the man. If they install the annual parts kit like they're supposed to then you are getting a fair deal. You see, SP keeps a lid on anything concerning parts or maintenance details. For that reason a parts kit just for the first stage of that reg can go for $25 on the grey market.

I work on regs at the local dive shop...mostly scubapro. A good tech will do what he is supposed to do...that means the following steps.

Initial testing - how is the reg perfoming when the tech first sees it. The reg is then broken apart completely and subjected to a 3 stage cleaning process. All static o-rings and annual replacement parts are then added. The reg is then put back together, adjusted and tested. The reg should fall within specific guidelines. All replaced parts are returned to the customer. If the shop you send your reg to does not give you the used parts back, don't pay for it. Insist they do it again. The reason being is that a local shop here charged customers $60 and never even took the reg apart. They would simply test it. This is a very dangerous practice. Getting the parts back is proof that work has been done, and may actually give you insight as to how you can take better care of your gear.
