Hi All,
I wanted to ask about this setup in my title. I choose the ScubaPro MK17/S555 from the advise of scuba diving magazine 2006 regulators article. I read several forums here about how people liked the R290 also. I went to ScubaPro site on the R290 but it didnt say how deep it can go, etc. I'm new to diving so wanted to ask if this combination is a good match. I'm planning on buying it at Leisure Pro since they have the best pricess and i know they are a grey market, but people seem to have been ordering from them for a long time(based on reading from several forums). Is it a matter of just unscrewing one of the lines and adding the R290 on it? Of do i need to do something different? Also, if i buy it from LeisurePro will they install it on the MK17 first stage for me? I keep hearing about detuned and i'm not sure what that means and how it would affect this combination. Hope someone can fill me in on this information. I'm a recreational diver, mostly beach dive and maybe some boat dives off Catalina.

Thanks a bunch of any information. One thing i got out of this forum is how people are so pollite with each other.

Print the Leisurepro price and go to a local Scubapro authorized dealer, and GIVE HIM/HER THE CHANCE to earn your business. If you buy from Leisurepro you will not have a Scubapro warrenty and will not get parts for life. I bet your savings will be zero if you get the complete picture at a good scubapro dealer.

while you are free to spend your money where you want, I would second the advice to at least give your LDS the chance to earn your business. If you do buy your regs through LP, just be forwarned. Your brand new regs, might not have serial numbers. When you take them into your LDS for service (sans serial #'s) they may hand them right back to you saying "I can't work on these."

I just noticed this was your first post here on SB, so let me say WELCOME!! You will find a wealth of knowledge here. Most questions you have, have probably been asked many times. Try using the search feature for questions. If you don't find satisfaction, then ask away!

I third the above posts. You will not have SCUBA Pro's warranty...$)(!^ out of luck if you have problems.

OK, i will go to my local LDS today and take my request. But in regards to my combinations. Is it a good combinations for the type recreational diving i wanted to do?

I did it once, but they were so mad and trolled. Of course, they never saw my money.... LOL~~~

The mk 17 is suppossed a great regulator and should be able to meet all diving needs, from deep to cold and sediment. I dive a forerunner, the Mk 18 (balanced diaphram, not enviromentally sealed). I would love to get my hands on one.

You may want to fill out your profile so people get a better idea of where you are and what type of diving you do, plan to do. On the up and up, sounds like a solid choice.

Just a preference, but i like the VIVA knob (especially for cold water) on the R190. I don't think anything is diver adjustable on the 295, not familiar with the R290.

R290 but it didnt say how deep it can go,

I tried already to find out but without success, this as I am hesitating to buy a Aqualung Legend ACD + Legend Octopus where I alreday found out that there are no problems at deeper waters or the Scubapro S555/MK17 + R295 Octopus ... I was told that the R295 (R290 don't know, must be older) has problems to work in deeper waters, but until now don't have any confirmation.
