Folks I am new to the scene - recently certified, currently looking to purchase my 1st setup. I have been considering the Scubapro glide or Knighthawk. I have had one LDS strongly push the Glide and another the Knighthawk. A little confused with which way to go. The knighthawk is somewhat appealing in that there is no side squeeze. This appeals to me cause I do have a herniated disk and it seems logical that it would remove any pressure on the body. I have tried both on and both feel good. So any feedback would be appreciated.

Why scubapro? Have you seen the DUI BC's? They are really nice, reasonably priced and the optional weight and trim system which is nice for people with back problems as can help distibute weight a little better. I've worked in a few dive shops, and in the rental department of them, the scubapro bc's usually don't hold up nearly as well as the seaquest bcs do. The plastic buckles are cheap and break and the air bladders are thin and can be punctured easily by droping tanks or weight on them.

Seing as you are new to the sport i would say that you should perhaps rent a back inflate bc and a jacket and actually use them. There is difference between the two
other than the side squeeze, like your trim in the water.

I do not have any GREAT input..but yes that is a hard choice. It is a personal choice, and you need to try them both a few times. I went through the same thing several years ago, and ended up with the Glide Plus. I love my Glide Plus and everyone I know that has one loves theirs. But it ios still a hard choice; it's a good problem to have!

I also have a herniated disk, but that should not make any significant difference in your choice. My first recommendation would be for you to try a simple Backplate/Wing with a one-piece harness. You will never need anything else.

If you are sure your choices are narrowed down to the KnightHawk or Glide, I can tell you from experience that the KnightHawk is a good choice. However, I have never used the Glide, and it looks like it would be a hard decision.

You will get many different opinions, but go with what feels right for you. Try renting before buying if you can. Welcome to the ScubaBoard family!

I don't have any input other than I also have a knighthawk and like it, but I do have a question. Do the bungee cords on the bladder really do anything?

The bungie cords help dump air from the air bladder quicker, and keep the BCD more streamlined as well.

ScubaPro is considered top of the line gear by just about everyone (arcaporale excluded). Many dive shops use ScubaPro as rental gear because it holds up well and is so well made. ScubaPro stands behind their product and the dealers do likewise because they are backed by ScubaPro. I have never heard of the buckles breaking. If you have two dealers pushing ScubaPro that should tell you something right there. As to which is best the Glide Plus or Knighthawk, that is personal preference. I can tell you that the GlidePlus does not create a side squeeze unless fully inflated for when you are on the surface waiting for the boat.
I suggest try them both, select the one that feels most comfortable to you.

I have a Knighthawk, and it is one of the few BCD's I would buy. I have since switched to a BPW though, so my large Knighthawk with an Air2 is going up for sale.
