What's the difference between the 4th green and other generations? What's the current generation?

  1. Current version is the 5th generation.
  2. The 1st generation looks entirely different - and is no longer supported by Scubapro.

The 2nd generation Air 2 has the familiar Air 2 shape, but has a case with sharper looking edges, and uses a metal clip to prevent the Purge cover from rotating. This purge cover has splined edges, is a little more cone shaped, and screws on the outside of the case. Internally it is also different as, unlike the 3rd, 4th and 5th Air 2's, the air barrel cannot be removed until the inflator stem has been removed.

The 3rd generation looks like the 4th generation and both have a more rounded appearance on the edges of the case and the purge cover screws inside the case. The major difference between them visually is the presence of a pin to retain the purge cover on the 4th Gen Air 2. Other than that there are just very minor cosmetic or detail changes.

The current 5th generation Air 2 is a 4th generation Air 2, just restyled with a fresh look and generally softened lines, a slightly slimmer appearance and rehaped buttons.

Nice write up @JeepinDiver

A few more minor details of interest:

The 2nd generation did not have an adjustable orifice-just a single adjustment downstream demand valve.

The 3rd gen saw the first adjustable orifice and dual adjustment downstream demand valve, just like an R190. The 3rd gen was the last generation with a metal orifice-some were gold plated. (One of the reasons this gen is my favorite.)

The Restyled version has a proprietary mouthpiece.

All AIR2s (not sure about the 1st gen) have balanced inflators which make them less prone to failure, and add air much quicker than standard units.

Thanks couv, but I'm not that knowledgeable. That was all from a post that DA Aquamaster wrote years ago.

Thanks for adding the additional information!

Yeah, I miss Mr. Encyclopedia's ( @DA Aquamaster ) post.
