I got my new ScubaL back plate and wing today. I must say that I am impressed. I thought for $270 shipped, it would be a piece of crap.... Now, don't get me wrong, this is a recreational BP/W here, not really tech. May be adapted to tech, but you'll have to put some $$ into it.
What's included:

6lb plate Stainless Steel
Harness- similar to the comfort harness sold by OMS, etc. Has quick connect buckles (again, not a tech set up). This could be easily replaced for $40. Comes with D-rings as well.
Crotch strap- 1 inch
Tank straps x2- plastic buckles. Threaded through the back plate's pad. Can also remove the pad and thread through the cut holes on the plate. No STA required.
Back Pad- the plate is encased in a cordura pocket that has a velcroed pad on the part that contacts your back.
Wing- this one is a bungeed type and it seems huge for a single tank. I would think for more control and better bouyancy, most people may want to replace. You can replace it with a $300 wing and still be below a Halcyon, OMS or DR system. So that's kind of nice.

The unit is actually different than the one pictured on the web site. The gay ScubaL Maximus logo is not imprinted on this wing and the waist belt has a stainless buckle, nicer than the plastic quick connect pictured on the site.

What it needs- weight pockets or weight belt and bolts to mount the wing.

By the way, the set up actually shipped directly from Vietnam and it came in a hurry. It took less than 5 days to get here.

More to come. So far, this unit has proven to be a great buy. We'll see how it does on a dive. I'm afraid the wing may be too big and I'll have to be twisting back and forth to distribute the air evenly. This may be why the bungee wrapped around it. BTW, the bungee can be removed very easily as it is not stitched into the wing's fabric.

What the size of the bladder ?????
It's providing 90 lbs of lift for single tank ????
Is that a tandem BC ????

LOL

Ok, not funny......

my 0.02...

Is this the Maximus Senior set up I see on the web site?
That's a great price ! I dive a ScubaL BC now and it has done great for a year now.
Keep us updated as to how it performs when you dive it. The wing does look a bit big though.

Oh, BTW, the harness system is more like the Trans Pac or the IQ harness by DR and OMS. The BP can be pulled out and set up for tech.
Hopefully I'll dive it in 2 weeks or so.

Yes, it is the Maximus Sr., the pictures on the site are outdated. No weight pockets or middle pocket are included and the harness is not threaded through the plate like the pics show. Like I said, it's more like a trans pac type harness system. Still very nice for recreational diver and can be upgraded later for tech.

Yes, you can actually hook up to 4 divers to this BC....

They also have the Maximus Jr. which is a 40# wing ... still rather large imo ... but you're right, it's a very inexpensive way to get into a bp/wing rig.

Thanks for the review - enjoy diving your new rig :D

Aloha, Tim

Why did you say so?

What is the difference between rec. BP/W and Tech BP/W?

Many active tech divers are still using the bungee wing and I have seen many advanced wreck divers who are using the quick release buckles on the chest. DIR or Hog configuration is only part of the diving concepts, not rule and regulation that everyone should follow. :)

We don't read that many feedbacks about ScubaL BP/W, but it doesn't mean it is an inferior product.

Well, first, I am NOT a tech diver. However, from what I understand, the harness used in this system has many failure points (all the quick connect things have to go). Now, really, when was the last time a quick connect failed on anyone??? Also, many DIR people don't use pads (shoulder, back, etc). My understanding is that DIR tech is a 2" webbing and continuous threaded thorugh the back plate. This system is a harness like the Trans Pac. As for the bungee, I think that DIR don't use since, if your bladder punctures, it will quickly expell all of the air out, causing buoyancy problems...

BTW, a quick connect on the chest is used by many techs. Look at the shoulder straps, though. You usually will not see quick connects there on DIR guys.

With that said, I'll leave it to the DIR tech guys to follow up.

I did not imply it was inferior. Just simply saying that the DIR guys would not use this rig for reasons above. I think this set up is as nice as some of the high dollar ones I've come accross. I'm actually impressed... For $240, it's a deal...

Another well, I think you read too much stuff on the board. Are you DIR diver? If then, you are right based on their gear configuration. I am also using Halcyon, 7ft long hose, and one piece of harness, but please look at other world and tech divers. There are so many tech divers who are using DR and OMS gear set up.. :)

Not a bad deal for the money. Just wondering though, for another 200.00 bucks you could have gotten yourself a DSS rig from Tobin for 490.00 If you have to replace just the wing your going to be more than the DSS rig already. I'm diving an Oxycheq Mach V wing which isn't the cheapest little sucker out there but I Love It. Each to his own, happy diving
