Hello everyone, as you can see I'm a new diver and I have a question about my MK25 does anyone have a few pic's on how they set theirs up? I know it's kind of a silly question right.

Here is what I have and when I bought in new the LDS just started putting it together for me but it just dosen't seem like it's right. I mean my 2nd Stage in on the same side as my computer hose so it's well not natural. I know you thinking well just change it to the other side right. Look I'm new at this could someone just send me a picture who might have a simular system.

MK25
X650
UWATEC Smart Com
Knighthawk w/Air II

Thank You....

O and could you send the picture also hooked up to the tank and everything.

They probably should have shown you this... gone over it a bit with you.... but here's the deal.

I'm guessing it's a confusion on whether the first stage is right side up, or upside down. There is an option when assembling the gear, which way to orient, and if you do it opposite of of what they did assembling, you'll get the problem you describe.

So, the standard way we like the unit set up, is so the swivel is down, and then that means your pressure gauge should be on the side the arrow is pointing to in the attached picture.

If they set it up that way, and you are putting in on your tank with the swivel up - that would put the gauge on the same side as your reg. So neither way is "right" or "wrong"... just different. I find the swivel up, is more likely to bang you in the head, but some people say the swivel down interferes with the amount of swivel they get. But we normally do them down.

I'm not at the shop, so can't send an actual picture, hopefully you will be able to make sense of it now... but if that doesn't do it for you, just PM me, and I can shoot some pictures when I get in Monday morning and send them to you.

Hi,

I noticed this thread while looking up a similar problem. I purchased a Mk25 setup from our local dive shop who is an authorised Scubapro 'showroom dealer' who also set it up for me with the 'swivel' facing down - she also added "don't let anyone tell you it's the wrong way up". Of course every time I go diving the instructor or dive master tells me that it's the wrong way up....

As already suggested there seems to be a no right or wrong way but all the people who say it's wrong seem to give vague arguments like the swivel should be free so your buddy can use the octopus more easily or it gives you 'more air' if you happen to end up on your back/upside down in the water (the chap who said this claimed to be a qualified Scubapro equipment specialist)....

Can someone clear up these issues with a technical explanation as I'd like to know what to say (or at least who to believe) when they tell me my reg is set up wrong......

Cheers in advance

Chris

The intermediate pressure will be the same whether the first stage is mounted up or down, there isn't that much pressure differential in two or three inches of the water column.

I've dove with people with the same first stage you have, almost universally they mount it turret side down at an angle because they use the bottom LP port for one of their regulators (instead of using the side mounted ports on the turret). Same for the Atomic regs. You can't use that "end" port with the turret at the top.

I personally have an Apeks DST first stage with a swivel turret that's honestly more trouble than its worth. Here's what I tell people who worry about whether my swivel is up or down, "Don't screw with my stuff!" :D (Replace "screw" and "stuff" with more appropriate words, depending on the attitude of the person intent on screwing with my stuff).

Now that I have a backplate and bungeed backup, most comments seem to be toward that instead of which way my reg is mounted.

Thanks for everyones help on this you all explained a lot for me. Now back to trying to find the best deal on a new 2005 Worthington X-7 80?

I'd love to help with that too... but shipping to Japan might get a bit expensive for a tank.

Well it's actually an FPO AP address so it's the same as if you were shipping it to San Francisco California. From their the Military flies it over. If it's not to much trouble could you look into it and give me quote throught a PM. The City, St would be the FPO,AP and the Zip is 92069. Let me know if it isn't too much trouble, Worthington X7-80.....

The whole Swivel design is what makes the MK25 such a Great Reg. Very Customizable. The Best thing for you to do is make it so YOU feel comfortable with it.
