What are some professions that are oriented around scuba diving? I've always wanted to be a marine biologist (since I was about 4) and just recently discovered a love for diving. However I wouldn't want to be a marine biologist if I stuck in a lab doing paperwork and stuff. I want to be in the ocean with all of the animals and experiencing the things hardly anyone else experiences. Is there a way to just conduct research in the field instead of doing things in a lab? If not what are some professions that keep me in the water doing what I love?

If there was everyone would be doing it.

You can be a "divehand", but you won't be paid very well and will probably spend most of your time working topside on gear.

Or, you can get your own Discovery Channel special. But even that requires copious research.

well there is commercial diving. don't get to spend much time looking at the sea life tho. there is underwater photographer. don't really know how you become a full time photographer. but it would be awesome. those are the only 2 i can think off where u spend most of your time in the water.
