Hi everybody,

I have a G12 and FisheyeFix housing and sadly my housing got scratched last week. Do you have any suggestions? Can I clean the scratch or should I change that part of the housing?

The picture of the scratch is on the link:

Thanks a lot!

Looks just like mine. :( The good news is that it doesn't seem to show up under water, or in above-water pictures, just in above-water videos.

Usually a scratch fills in with water while underwater and nothing needs to be done for repair. All my ports have some sort of scratches on them and none are noticeable in any underwater pics.

Available at Backscatter:
Novus Acrylic Polish - Three 2 oz. bottles of Novus Acrylic Polish. This stuff will save your acrylic dome from those annoying scratches.

You get a bottle of step 3 for Heavy Scratches, a bottle of step 2 for Fine Scratches, and a bottle of step 1 for buffing and shining. SKU: nv-kit

Fisheye sells replacement windows. I scratched my G11 housing and when I took it to Reef Photo the cost for them to replace the window wasn't much over the the cost of the scratch repair products. I'll check the cost when I get home this afternoon, I don't imagine a huge cost difference between the G11 and G12.

Not positive since I have not banged on my enough to determine, for good reason;), pretty sure it is GLASS, not Plexi and therefore Novus system will do no good and possibly harm.

I think the port scratch from what I see there is of no consequence.

you can also use a dremel tool with a soft polishing wheel to take away the hard edges. makes it alot less noticeable.

Thank you all for replies! You were very helpful.

I think I will try to polish the scratch a little and use the housing like this for a while. If it gets annoying I will change the window. lewisevans, can you tell me the price of changing the window when you check? thanks.

The replacement window cost $75, it was maybe 30 or 35 more than the scratch removal kit that they recommended when I stopped by the store. I decided to just have them replace the window. The labor and a pressure test was included as well.
