Typically I use about half a full breath on an empty bc. I just figured (incorrectly) that I might as well use waste air than fresh air.
 
use less weight and you will need less air in your bcd underwater.. It is negligible anyway.
 
I have 2 Points to make on the topic.
1. Me, married 30 years and from that experience I can say "seldom right" may be too generous. Right once in every 30 years is more like it.
2. You have already used your once.
