I just signed up for this.... RipCharts - Rip Charts - Find the Rip

I have been watching the NOAA free satelite views, but for $89 a year, this service seems to filter through the info and give me what I need instead of me going through all that work. I don't know about you guys, but in the morning before a trip, my time from wake up to boat start up is precious.

Has any one else developed an opinion on this service or others like it?

Up here in the Pacific Northwest we have a free site called boater information system which gives real time winds, currents, tides and temperatures. it is operated by the applied physics lab. http//bis.apl.washington.edu. I find it useful

here's a free site. Probably won't be as user friendly as a paid service, but the price is right.

Free SST Charts - Free Sea Surface Temperature

James,

I have been using this Rutgers site for some time just for a good idea of the surface temps. It is a good overall depiction, but you are not able to zoom in and see details.

I have just added another Garmin with the XM downlink that is supposed to provide a lot of this type info along with all the real time data buoy info, etc... Have not yet tried it out but it will be interesting to see if it is worth the 29 a month.

I like the ripcharts subscription because I can add waypoints into the screens I see and not have to guestimate where the edges are when I use the free sites like the Rutgers one. I offshore fish a bit, and it really helps to find the currents edges and upwellings using the altimetry charts.
