I just got back from Santo 2 weeks ago. We stayed at the Aore Resort and didn't regret it for a moment. Looking back, I wish I had done a couple of dives just off the beach in front of our bungalow. I put a dive report under the Pacific Island forum.

hello and welcome to the forums

youre going to love santo!! vanuatu is my fav place to return to....

if money is no problem, Bokissa resort

but if you prefer spending your money on diving than surroundings you wont be disappointed with either the Coral Quays or Deco Stop

enjoy!

G'Day Heg,

It really depends on the sort of atmosphere you want to be arround while on your holiday. I have stayed at a lot of different places in Santo and can offer you some advice. If you elaborate on what you are looking for i might be able to offer suggestions based on what 'you' want. :D

I agree that Aore Island resort and Bokissa and truly beautifull places to stay. They are both quiet and will leave you feeling like you have just taken a true tropical holliday. Both however are a short boat trip into town. (Which isnt a problem, just takes time that is all)

If you are looking for more of a hotel style accomodation then Deco Stop (In town) or Coral Quays (Just out of town and have little individual bungallows that you stay in) The dive operators work very closely with all the accomodations and will do pick-ups from the resorts, so getting to the Coolidge want be an issue. :D

I have been to Oyster Bay Resort as well. Quite a bit out of town, but brilliant food! The own is a french Chef! Oh, and almost unlimited Oysters.:D Yummy.

Get back to me with what type of accomodation and anything else that you want, and i will give you your best option in the Area.

I hope this helps.

Yours Truly,
Carl Fallon:14:

nice! hubby went to nuie about 8yrs ago and had a great time.... looking forward to a trip report when you come back!

Well we got back from Niue yesterday after a week of bliss. Spent most of our time under the water with Annie and Ian from Niue Dive. The run a fantastic dive shop. Very professional but great fun. Some really awesome dives. Sea temp was around 27degs with at least 30-40m viz on most dives. I wore a 5mm and was never cold. Hubby got a bit chilly on a couple of dives wearing a full length steamer with a sharkskin rash vest under.
Saw white tips and an eagle ray and barracuda. Swam with spinner dolphins most days which was fantastic. Even saw a few humpbacks on the surface but by the time we swam out to them they had dived out of range.
Stayed at Niue's only hotel, the Matavai. Fabulous setting and great for whale watching.Very handy for the dive shop and the rooms are ok. Extra for a room with aircon but we were fine without as all rooms have a fan and get a nice breeze. The hotel could do with a bit of a makeover. The pools were a bit grubby when we arrived but they cleaned them up in preparation for Helen Clark's visit on the 17th. She joined us other common guests in the dining room for breakfast on the Thursday morning but she was upstaged by the appearance of two humpbacks.:)
no sandy beaches but plenty of chasms and caves to explore. Basic meals but plenty of fresh fish. couple of places in Alofi worth eating at but the food is very much the same wherever you go. The hotel probably has the most extensive menu but not much in the way of fresh fruit and veg. Certainly couldn't complain about portion sizes. HUGE!!
We loved every minute and would happily return.
We can't wait to go back
