Hello all,

In June we are sailing off from San Fran to Hawaii on a conservation project, we will be diving all along that route. Does anyone know what kind of exposure suit we will require, I am guessing for the first leg of the Journey from San Fran we are talking Dry suit, what about the middle of the trip and hawaii?

Thanks for any info.

Lee

Lee,

You'll want a 7mm wetsuit or a drysuit for SF area. In Hawaii, the 7mm will be overkill.

Try a White's Fusion dry suit. I've dove mine around the world and been beyond comfortable.

Really. One week I had it in Lake Tahoe at 39 degrees F, and the next week in the Red Sea in 74 degree water. It's been warm and comfy in Fiji and Hawaii and Monterey. All you have to do is vary the undergarments, nice and thick for cold and a layer of DuoFold for tropics.

All the best, James

Another vote for drysuit and changing your undergarments for the conditions.

Regarding wetsuits in Hawaii, depends on how many days of repetitive diving and how long your exposures are. Dove for a week straight, and I was cold in my 5mm + hooded vest.

For Hawaii you will probably need either a 3mm or 5mm wetsuit, depending on how cold you get. There is a tread going now on the Hawaii Ohana section on wetsuits. Sounds like quite an adventure!! Good luck and enjoy.
