About one year and 3 months ago I purchased a Salvo 35W HID canister light from my LDS. I had previously owned a Salvo light and knew what I was getting myself into. The 35W was not inexpensive, but I have been very happy with the light and Salvo until...

Recently, while on a dive trip, my Salvo light failed. I would turn it on and it would just turn off on its own. What was I to do? Well... I got with the local Salvo dealer who was also hosting our dive vacation and he contacted Corey right from our dive boat by cell phone. Corey offered to send a loaner to me to complete the trip then asked me to send my light back when I returned home. WOW! That would be great! He did. The light arrived the next day, and my trip was saved. We were diving the Roy A. Jodery in upstate NY after all. I would have dived that on my SALVO backup if I had to (just kidding).

To make matters worse, when I arrived home, I sent my broken 35W and the loaner light (which worked flawlessly by the way) back to Salvo. Within a few days I received a UPS ship notification. What gives now? I called and talked to Corey. The light apparently needed a new ballast. He fixed the light and sent it back to me - no charge. Unlike some drysuit companies, you would think it would take at least 3-4 weeks for Salvo to make the repair (I am sure you all know who I am talking about - an acronym for tipping the bottle and getting behind the wheel in Idaho). Nope! Finished in one day. Salvo is fantastic!

As you may have guessed by now, and with the title of this post aside, I have nothing but good things to say about Salvo, their staff, their service, and their bulletproof lights. If you can afford to buy one of these great pieces of scuba equipment... do it. You will not be sorry for spending the money.

I just want to thank Corey and Salvo's staff for saving my trip and taking care of their customers the right way!! Keep up the good work guys.

Sorry for the title guys. Nobody wants to read a positive report.

you're an ass. :D I was reading, and reading to find out how in the world could Salvo be bad.

:)

Good post! You had me!!

Considering the fact that a GREAT many more people will read the title than will ever actually click on it to read the post, you really oughta ask a moderator to change the title.

Think about it: SB has more than 100,000 members viewing the main board, but the average thread only gets 100-200 reads. So the net impact of your post is that a handful of people "get the joke" but another 99,900 are truly left with the impression of "I read somewhere that Salvo lights are a huge ripoff."

It may have seemed funny at the time, but in retrospect I think you'll agree it's a pretty bad idea.

:rofl3: Not much more to add to this, since this guy is my dive buddy...:lotsalove:

If this is true, McCain will win the election! :D

I disagree. My intention was to get more people to read this post. Unfortunately in this world, controversy attracts attention. It is my opinion that the divers who are considering a light purchase would read this post and get the right impression. The title is so contrary to they typical Salvo press that it begs a read.

I would be happy to change the title if someone from Salvo asked me to do so.

well the title got my attention. I prob wouldn't have read it otherwise.

SB has more than 100,000 members viewing the main board,

oh man.... pass the Kool-aid.

maybe there are 100,000 members registered over the past X years, but I doubt even 10% of them are active (posted in the last 3-6 months). And that includes sock-puppets!

I disagree.

I can only speak as someone who's been in advertising, marketing, and PR for 20+ years...the fact of the matter is that the title of your post WILL in fact have the opposite effect of the one you're going for.

A great many more people will receive the "unintended" negative message of the thread title than will ever read the post. Accordingly, if you're trying to do Salvo a favor, you need to understand that you're not.

+1. While it may not be a great idea, it made me read the thread. I was going to be SHOCKED if someone had a bad experience with Salvo...and I was willing to stick up for their customer service!

As a small part of a successfull 54 year old company with the name R.C. Worst & Co., Inc. that uses the slogan "Expect the Best from Worst", I guess I wouldn't know beans about these things.
