I'm a Fish!
An evening with diving Legend Norman "Dugie" Russell
Local diver Norman "Dugie" Russell left the United States Air force and the "The Flying Tigers" Interceptor Squad in the late 50's and returned to his home town of Beverly Mass in the early 1960's. As he tried to acclimate himself to civillian life, he found himself craving further adventures, and eventually became infatuated with the new sport of SCUBA Diving. Finding emplyoment in Civil Service, he was one of the original founders of the Essex County Sherriff's Search and Recovery Dive Team.
"Dugie" executed many dive recovery opperations over the years including guns/murder wepons, stolen property, missing bodies, and salvage work such as the recovery of the tragic wreck of the "Can Do" which went down during the blizzard of '78 while attempting a rescue.
In addition to his Civil Service contributions "Dugie" also took up a passion for underwater hunting and shipwrecks. Mr. Russell has amassed an incredible cache of timber and artifacts fom the wreck of the "USS New Hampshire" (The last of the 72 gun battleships and the sister ship of the USS Constitution) which he fashions into various works of art, such as cribbage boards, clocks, etc, beautifully adorned with genuine brass from the Paul Revere Foundery of Canton Mass, early 1800's vintage. Norman's underwater adventures span almost 50 years, please join us for what promises to be an engaging and absorbing multi media presentation on some of the earliest and most exciting times in the sport of SCUBA diving. Social hour starts at 7 pm, good food and drinks in the bar for cheap $$, So come early and make an evening out of it!
