I just tried to call Dario. He has his boat all fixed up and he is a very good instructor. He puts together a nice package.
Cozumel Boat Trips

He is a super guy and you would love sailing with him.
I have sent a lot of guests out with him and sailed with him myself on many occasions

I have been sailing on Dario and Kims boat Adelaide that ScubaTony recomends. Great boat and crew. We had a great evening of sunset sailing, margaritas and snacks. I would like know if they do offer sailing lessons. it would be a great day on the water

Dario's boat is a 47' sloop -- heavy, beamy and a nice one to sail & learn to sail on. And Dario's very patient for a sailor -- a fun-loving, wonderful person. Have fun!

Anybody do sailboat rentals and sailing lessons in Cozumel besides these guys ? We are going to be down next week and they have thier boat out of the water.
cozumel sailing adventure tours and sailboat rentals

I looked around and came up with nuthin'.

We are looking for a 20'+ sailboat for maybe full day with instructor for at least part of the day.

Thanks in advance!

Not sure if Dario will let you sail the boat without him but he is a great captain. He is truly a "son of a son of a sailor". We went out with him for an afternoon sail back in March. Opal and Mau (Scubamau Cozumel) found him for me after I had explained to them I had just begun sailing and would love to go out on a boat while on Cozumel. He did let me take the helm and do anything else I wanted to tackle. (raising sheets etc.) He is very knowledgable.

We talked about the possibility doing a sail around the island next time we were down. I'm sure conditions would need to be favorable. He says that trip would take about 14 hours so maybe our last day on the island after diving for 5 days in November.

And yes his boat is 47-48 ft. and has a neat history. Someone on the island can help you find him. ANd from what I hear he was a great DM as well.

He also has good music on the boat.

May you have fair winds.

Thanks, I was thinking something a little smaller but in the end may just look him up.
Thanks again!

I have in the past taken out one of the rentals from Cozumel Sailing. It was pre Wilma and I believe the boat was subsequently destroyed in the storm, or so I was told. Maybe someone salvaged it. It was called the Kaylee Rae or something like that. It looked like the picture on their website of the red hull boat. I have experience and didn't use their captain or take lessons so I can't speak to those questions. The boat was serviceable, everything worked. Cozumel in general is not a great local for sailing. The small boats are not fast and against the current your speed over ground is about as fast as walking. When you turn around and head north you fly along. Plus the hulking Cruise ships create some interesting wind shadows if you head that far south.

Dan the owner also runs the trimaran "Tucan" day sail which is also a fun day trip. That boat is not a rental but a group trip. It is much faster and better suited to the local conditions. If there is wind they will let you take the helm and sail it if you ask.

Have fun

Rich

My first sailing experience was with Dan on the Kaylee, sorry to hear it's gone.:(

Dan was a great instructor and a great host, he inspired me enough to purchase my own boat a year later and over the years I progressed to get bare boat certification.

I owe it all to captain Dan.

He was a real entrepreneur to offer sail boat rentals in Coz, sorry to hear he had to switch over to the tour boat industry to make a living.
