Very depressing read, but important info to be aware of. I'm not optimistic about the future.

i feel sick just after reading the article...is that what my generation is facing? i'm really concerned, this isnt right. What can we do?? I feel helpless after reading this...maybe we might be diving in biological suits in the future if somthing isnt done soon.

Yep, and to top it off the carribean is 1 degree hotter than normal. At least its that way in Grand Cayman. Its estimated that August will be another degree hotter. Coral is starting to bleach.

The good news is that this happened in the early 90's and the reafs recover ffrom natural bleaching do to temperature well. They do not recover from abuse from humans like touching, standing and anchoring.

"i'm really concerned, this isnt right. What can we do??"

Great question. I donate to as many nonprofits trying to address ecological issues as I can afford. I vote based on a candidates enviro record, and modify my behavior so I minimize my negative impact on the Earth. Still not sure its enough.

I'd be interested in other suggestions as well.

Yes, it's very sad to witness the environment abuse on a daily basis without being able to do anything about it.

Some of us try but can't seem to do much - money talk is still louder than our concerned voices combined.

And to think that everything a certain individuals can come up with is a pathetic "do not touch" policy for us divers while at the same time there's so much more damage done to the same environment by others or even those pointing their fingers at us... my message to those can only be: :mooner:

I wish I could see the day when such problems as ballast water would be addressed and managed by environmental experts and not by companies causing them in the first place.
