Hi Bubbleslan,
You definitely made the right choice...........you will LOVE Saba! It is one of the most enchanting and lovely places I've traveled. IMHO Sea Saba is a far superior dive operator than its competition, extremely professional and helpful. Juliana's is also an excellent choice....if Orchid Cottage (part of Juliana's) is available during the time you'll be there, it is definitely worth the upgrade. You will treasure the memories you bring home of your trip there. It is a uniquely beautiful and special place. BTW, I am also in Chicago and am always looking for other divers in Chi-town to connect with. Post me sometime, and have a wonderful time!

I have read that Saba is great for advanced divers. Would everyone still recommend Saba for a small group of mixed experience divers?

UPDATE: never mind. Just did a search and found a post mentioning it to be nice for novices too.

Glad to hear these comments on Saba, Carribean Explorer this Thanksgiving.

When you are on the Island ask around for Garvis. He's a local cab driver that grew up on Saba. Great guy and a wealth of information. For a few bucks he will take you on a tour of the island and he's a trip. You can't miss him. He's a TALL guy with curly greying hair. Sometimes you'll find him at the swinging door. Definitely stop by the there especially when they have rib night. Juliana's is great also. Be sure to say hi to Steve over in the Tropics. He used to work for Sea Saba and now runs the restaurant with his wife. Come to think of it. Say hi to everyone. They are all great. My great great grandfather is the one that built the road on Saba, Joe Hassell. When you have the time take the short hike up the road from Julianna's and stop by Margarete's shop. She's another relative of mine (I'm related to 2/3rds of the island) and makes Saba Spice.... Probably the most delicious alcoholic drink ever made. It's really great over ice-cream and apple pie. There's an interesting glass shop up the road from there. that's a hike but it's neat. Check out the O tree while you are up there. Also right up the road from Juliana's on the right as you walk up is a run down home that belongs to Carly Simon. Right below Juliana's you'll see "The Captain's Quarters" A hurricane tore through Saba and the owner didn't have insurance. Just walked away from it and no one has bough it yet. If anyone wants to go in on a business venture let me know. The hotel is being sold CHEAP, the owner doesn't want to sell though.... Price keeps getting reduced but still no sale (at least as of last year).
