Bonjour !

Some pics from Philippines (Visayas) and Egypt (Marsa Alam).

My configuration :
- S95 + Recsea housing
- Inon D2000 strobes x 2
- Fisheye UWL04 (100% of the Eygpt pics, 98% of the Philippines pics)
- Macro lens UCL-77 (2% of the Philippines pics)

Philippines April 2011
Egypt July 2011

The pics are "raw" : no editing, no cropping (only watermarking)

Very Nice! I was looking at some of the EXIF and noted that you had your strobe firing at shutters speeds faster than 1/500 up to 1/1650 even! Is that correct? My S90 won't go above 1/500.

Yes, I often use fast shutter speed in order to have a dark (or totally black) background on some pics, so the subject in the foreground is highlighted.
By the way, I never use shutter speed lower than 1/100 (in order to avoid the blur).

I too like the high shutter speeds but was surprised your strobe is synching at those speeds. Is that normal or is there hacking involved?

With my S90 on Manual, even if i set the gigher shutter speed say 1/800, if the strobe is on. It will fire at 1/500 max. Never faster. Same even on Av mode.

Are you shooting on Manual?

The S90 and S95 cameras default to 1/500 which is their fastest shutter speed with the flash on. The same is true with my G10 and G12.
I discovered it by looking at my EXIF data and then checked the manual to learn about the 1/500 max.

Yes I shoot on manual (manual mode on both S95 and the Inon D2000 strobes)

I read that also, but my EXIFs show that it seems I can shoot at faster speed.
And when I shoot the same subject at 1/500 or at 1/1200, I see the difference between both (on the background darkness).

Ripseven,

That is so unusual! Everybody else seems to have the same experience with the shutter speed reverting back to max 1/500 right before the moment of firing and the EXIF indicates so. That is why I was so intrigued by the EXIF data on your posted images.

Is there anyone else getting the flash synch at shutter speeds higher than 1/500 on Can compacts ?

Awesome pics, thanks for sharing! :coffee:
