ive now decided to go for the s95 with the canon housing, however, doing a search and compare for cost hav come across canon housings on ebay in the £117 -£130 mark, this is very cheap....is this likey to be any probs here anyone got any opinions of buying from these sellers, as this brings the cost down for my kit considerably to £430 [camera from amazon £297] as opposed to cameras underwater camera and housing £599, bristols cameras £500

A Canon housing is a Canon housing. N

I am afraid I know nothing of the British merchants. I usually buy photo stuff from Adorama and B&H Photo here in the U.S. When dealing with a new merchant I will check them on Reseller Ratings. I don't know if they rate UK merchants, but it might be worth checking with them or looking for a UK or EU counterpart.

As Nemrod said, the housing isn't going to be different but you could have shipping delays, added charges, or similar if dealing with a less than scrupulous merchant.

You could also probably order from B&H or Adorama. They are both reputable, but I don't know what customs and tax issues you might encounter.

The housing is readily available in the U.S. for around $175.00 - $200.00, so that may give some sense of legitimate pricing.

Good Luck

I see the price as 117 pounds.
converted to dollars is $185.
amazon is taking orders for them at $198, so it's not that cheap.
but, do they actually have them yet.
B&H has it for $180.
but neither amazon or b&H have them in stock.

Adorama shows them in stock for $180.00.

If any of you are thinking of ordering, Probably best to call first in case their web page is not current.

MB--Also check their eBay rating & feedback. New items, hard to get elsewhere but selling from someone for "very cheap", should make you cautious. Sure, a Canon housing is a Canon housing--but not if you don't receive it or wait for months after the merchant has your $$. (Uh, L thingys, pounds--whatever.) At the very least, pay by credit card in case you need to dispute the transaction. // ww

but why so cheap :dontknow:

You are in Europe? If so we don't pay all of the taxes here that you guys do over there--yet. Maybe we are closer to China or something, I dunno.

Here is a link to Amazon.com:

Amazon.com: Canon WP-DC38 Waterproof Housing for Canon S95 Digital Cameras: Electronics

As to eBay, I go by the ratings, record and history of the seller. I have been selling and buying on eBay for many years and have no qualms whatsoever about purchasing items through eBay sellers who I have seen for years on the site.

I would not pay much over 200 dollars US for a DC38 housing, if you walk into a brick and mortar store, expect to pay full MSRP, online, no way.

Good luck with this project.

I hadn't really paid attention to the ebay component of your question. Sorry. I looked at your link and all the sellers listed seem to be in the U.S. If you are ordering from the U.S. anyway, just order from Adorama. They are in stock there and the business is reputable and the price is pretty much the same.

If it isn't in stock, they will notify you and you can cancel your order, or call them first to double check if it will let you sleep better.
