I've tried to read all the threads on this subject, so apologizies if i missed the answer.

I'm looking to buy a S90 and housing/strobe/lenses this weekend at the Bangkok dive convention. I had a S90 w factory housing which I enjoyed, but ended up selling to my Similans dive master. I was quite happy with the camera and case.

I'm looking to buy it again, but I want to start playing with wet lenses and strobes. It appears that the factory case + Inon mount adaptor is about the same price as the Ikelite housing, which i understand takes 67mm threaded lenses. If one were starting from scratch, which is better for the S90 in terms of lenses? the AD28 mount on factory housing or the 67mm on the ikelite? I saw a thread saying the ikelite housing w macro lense had some focus issues. And another saying the Inon had some fitting problems with AD lenses. I plan on ultimately getting a macro and a wide angle lens. I am not considering the Fix housing, the money saved can go a long way to wet lenses and strobes.

For strobe looking at S2000.

I had recently gotten most of my S90 Kit together. After reading all the threads and posts, I ended up with the Fisheye FIX S90 Housing, Fisheye 28AD Mount, 2x Inon UCL165Ad and UFL165AD. I have the S2000 Strobe (only single strobe for now).

I had the Canon Housing but sold it because it had compromised the use of the rear wheel making it a little more difficult to adjust shutter speed or aperture whichever one would have assigned to it.

I ended up with the Fisheye 28AD Mount because I got a really good deal on the Inon Lenses (used). I had agonized over which mount and lens to get for the FIX S90 housing. That was all made easier when some used INON AD mount lenses became available to me locally.

Concerns about vignetting and maximizing FOV on the widest possible lens were what made the choices most difficult.

I noted a number of Canon and Ikelite housing users that were getting great results from their rigs as well.

All told, I am quite happy with the setup so far and will be getting it in the water in two weeks.

There a few threads covering the S90, housing and lens options on SB. All very informative.

Good luck to you in your quest to get the right set up for you.

I have the S90, Ike housing, and 1 Inon S2000 strobe and one Sea and Sea YS 01 strobe (which I prefer because it is cheaper and easier change settings underwater, plus, has focus light.) I use the Ike W20 for wide-angle, which I like, and I have a 67 mm Inon close-up lens, but overall, am not getting great macro shots with this camera (compared to my SLR). I find that focus is often not accurate for macro.

Check out the reefnet 5x macro adapter as well, 67mm screw mount. About to get the same setup, S90 and Ikelite, 10 Bar AD adapter and Inon wideangle. Currently rocking 2x S&S 90 duo Strobes.

Scubaboard and Wetpixel have a ton of info on the S90 and various setups. I have also heard the macro can be hit and miss, pre focus, lock and readjust your distance till it looks sharp.

While I do not have one. I HIGHLY recommend the FIX housing. Yes, they are more expensive, but at the moment they seem to offer the most room to grow with lenses (both wide and macro) and they are built like tanks. I had a FIX housing for a G10 and it was a great piece of kit.

How was the Bangkok dive expo? I was not in town for it this year unfortunately.

Dear Watboy,

Fantasea is about to release an adaptor that will enable mounting a BigEye Wide Angle Lens on the Canon S90 Housing (WP-DC35). This will enable you to enjoy a very fine yet simple wide angle solution.

How Does It Work?
The Canon S90 camera features a 28mm wide angle lens. However, once submerged with the housing in water and without any lens accessories, this angle narrows down by 33% due to the unique optic characteristics of water. The BigEye Lens G Series is an air lens that once installed on the housing underwater, restores the original wide angle characteristics of the camera lens (enlarging it by 33% so it reaches 28mm). For further information regarding the technology of the patented BigEye Lens, please Click Here.

Also, you can watch a video clip demonstrating the effect of the BigEye Lens underwater by Clicking Here.

The EyeDaptor S90-G Series enables mounting the BigEye Lens G Series mentioned above on the S90 Housing Lens port. It will be available within the upcoming 15-20 days.

In addition, by using the same adaptor you can also mount the SharpEye Macro Lens M67 on the S90 Housing lens port. Note that in order to mount this macro lens on the S90 Housing lens port, an additional adaptor is required- EyeDaptor G Series-F67.

Best Wishes,

Sharon Rainis
