Hi there guys! I am new at underwater photograghy been taking photos for about a year now so am slowly learning the ropes! I have been using a friends s110 and its a great little camera, until I had a play around with the g15! Im looking at buying one of the 2, any feed back? has anyone had any experience with the canon housing, rumour has it that there are no wet lenses available for it.. for the G15 that is.. The recsea and nauticams are out of my budget for now, any feed back would be appreciated!

The G15 has wet lenses for it. The first g series cameras that does however they come with some limitations
Ultimately the choice depends on you, the S110 is more portable and versatile in terms of lens and housing choices
The G15 is a prosumer style camera with added features on land but does not fit in a pocket and has less shooting scenarios available to it. If you plan to add external strobes on land it is the way to go
If you are quite happy with a simpler set up you won't be able to tell the difference between those two cameras in terms of image quality

I'll add that if you want external strobes in the water and choose to go the wired route the G15 is the only route. I have an earlier S camera (not sure of the model but its several years old) and even though it's bulkier I find the G15 (and the G9 I had before it) to be a better carry around camera for general picture taking.

I started off with the S series when I went to digital underwater with a canon housing. Think it was the S40...great little camera at the time. I am currently shooting with the G15 and love it. The s110 is also a great little camera but the battery life on the g15 is better and I am able to use macro wet lenses with it (I use a nauticam housing but there are adapters that can be used with a canon housing as well). Inon has now come out with a WA lens and adaptor for the canon housing as well.

Both are great choices and I am sure you will be happy with whatever you choose. I just like the G series over the S series now. :-)

Thank you for all great feedback! gone for the g15..the question now is what housing, money is an issue, have had a look at the ikelite and fantasea housings, but am swaying more towards the canon housing to save some money for a strobe, any feedback on the canon housings? i know they are entry level housings and are somewhat limited with lenses? have heard rumours of wet lenses available for it..any rumours of sneaky floods ect? any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Actually the canon housing has better wet lens support than both the ikelite or fantasea
The main benefit of the ikelite is a wired hot shoe, the fantasea does not offer support for real wet lenses but it is rated to 60 meters

Really not much in it and with the Inon accessories you can connect safely a strobe and all the wet lenses currently supported for this camera

For the S110, at least, the Canon housing is great! I'm not sure of its long-term durability and it is slightly positive (not a big deal), but it is very nice and seems to be quite well designed. I like it much better than my old Ikelite housing, which was sort of one-size-fits-all and not designed as closely to the camera. (However, I understand that Ikelite has improved their housings, and the bigger Ikelite O-ring is easier to clean.)
