Hi all,

I'm completely new to underwater photography.
Having been exposed to underwater photography recently during my advance course in bali, i'm very keen to learn more.

i have a s100, but am still undecided between recsea or fixs100 for housing.
the cost of both is fairly similar so i am unsure of which one to go for.

I would love to shoot both macro and wide angle, and the lenses should be easily interchangeable underwater. What are the recommended lenses?

Can anyone advise on a s100 set up complete with housing, lenses and strobes?

I have a Recsea for the S95, it is a great housing however I don't particularly like the read dial I believe the old fashion design of the Fix works better

Both housing take the same lenses I think there are offers for the Fix S100 out I would grab one!!!

Just completed my first trip with an S100, FIX housing, Sea&Sea D-1 Strobe, and the FIX UW-28 wide angle lense. Except for an issue with the rear dial (see S100 woes thread below), I liked everything about it. I still have a ways to go to take good pictures on a consistent basis (good for me, not magazine quality), but I'm looking forward to using it again in February. The wide angle is a wet mount and was not hard to remove and place on the lense caddie I bought and placed on my strobe arm. Biggest change for next trip, custom white balance only when not using flash. Using the underwater mode just didn't cut it for me. I bought everything from Reef Photo and they were great. Backscatter is also praised on these threads.

Rob,

For me once I figured out the manual white balance settings it was like a paradigm shift for me and my UW photos. In most cases in clear water I stopped carrying the strobes.

Good luck with the white balance and happy bubbles,

~Oldbear~

Thanks, Oldbear. Next trip in February is the Socorro Islands and I'll post a few pics using manual white balance. Suppose to be working today, but nobody is in their offices this week, so checking Scubaboard makes sense to me.

Ditto...

I probably should have taken this week off as nothing is getting done...but saving my vaction days to blow bubbles. :snorkel:

Just picked up the FIX S100 housing from Backscatter for $599. Seemed like a pretty sweet deal :)

Reef Photo also has the FIX for $599. I won't even mention what I paid nor what I paid for the S100. Timing is everything. No buyers remorse here.

How is custom white balance done underwater? generally speaking...
