Running water through the BC.... Why?

Hey, love the Listerine idea! Question: does anyone ever rinse out their BC with a diluted bleach solution (like 10:1)? That would sure knock out any mold or whatever... Is mold 'n stuff a real concern? Just curious. :)

listerine is only mildly antiseptic used in a bc bladder and the alcohol will dry rubber parts out. the navy had been experimenting to find a suitable disinfectant and they came up with the following four agents:
SaniZide Plus
Advance TBE
Bi-Arrest 2
Confidence Plus

Same thing with the pool, which is why they stress it so much in OW class... chlorine is definitely not good for the bladder, so be sure to get it all out.
 
Cool Doc.... so with all those products is there then an issue with needing to disinfect our BCs? I was going to stick with the plain H2O for now and dry upside down. But with all those product choices...maybe there's a bit more to consider here.

Remember - those products have other general uses - not just cleaning your dive gear, so don't think that just because there are choices means you should use one of them.

Unless you are susceptible to infection or need them for your peace-of-mind, I would just rinse & dry. The vast majority of divers/rental shops do just that and I have yet to hear of any problem...
 
When I was going through open water and when I bought my BC, I was told that PART of the lifespan of your BC is cleaning it well inside and out regardless of whether you dove it in a lake, a pool, or salt water. I always flush mine inside and out, then air up a little and hange to finish drying.

If you looking for something to use for the inside of the bladder, Aquaseal makes a pretty good product that is a conditioner/cleaner just for the inside of BC bladders.
