Just got back from the Curacao Surge (it was awesome!) and I can't figure out what this fish is. I dove the Tugboat site twice and spotted this fellow only on the night dive. Brownish pattern with 3 large/long dorsal fins sort of like a rooster.

Hogfish, intermediate phase.

I used to think that hogfish were the dumbest fish in the ocean. They just pose for you and wait to be speared.

Then I encountered lionfish, which care even less than hogfish that you just killed 20 of its friends right in front of it.

It’s just a pattern of the Hogfish, not a phase color. They can change colors fast. Probably a night time pattern.
