Hello all,
I posted some questions here about Roatan before getting my Open Water certification there 12/15-12/22.

So here is my trip report.
This may be strange. But, first, answers to my own questions:
1. My friend went to Utila and got her certification there. She says the accommodation is usually included with all dive courses. Is that true in Roatan as well?
No, accomodation is not included in the dive courses in Roatan.
2. If not, how much should I expect to pay on top of a dive course? (The prices listed on websites go from $5 a day to $900 a week.) Since I'm travelling alone already, I do prefer singles over dorm rooms.
For budget calculation, I would say expect to pay $40 a night for a single.
3. Since it is low seaon, it won't be hard to find a dive shop when I'm there right?
Yes, it won't be hard.
4. Are AKR's dolphin activities still available on a rainy day? What about the Iguana Farm, Butterfly Garden, etc?
AKR's dolphin activities are only available on fair weather days. The Roatan Butterfly Garden is semi-outdoor, so you should go there when it is not raining. But I did not go to the Iguana Farm.
5. Which restaurants do you recommend? What are some Roatan specialties? Do people there eat sea urchins?
Pura Vida and Argentinian Grill. Their specialty is seafood, but no sea urchin. Conch is also good, but it is not recommended to eat them because coral reefs need conchs to grow. For more restaurant information, see my food blog at Kiwi Lover
6. I e-mailed Coconut Tree Divers once, and they replied saying December is a fun time on the island. Does that mean there will be special events?
There is no special events. But it does feel nice and relaxing.
It rained 4 out of the 7 days I was in Roatan. And it usually rained 9am through 5pm. But that did not stop the diving. It is the wind that makes the sea rough and difficult to get back onto the boat.
