Howdie Folks,

I'm planning a trip to Roatan 2/9-2/17.
We do not want to stay in a Dive Resort.

Do we need A/C in Feb?

We are looking at Coconut Tree Divers for diving, but hear their lodging can be loud with Roosters.

Does anyone have any advise on where to stay in the West End?
Ideally we'd like 2 beds, hot water and a kitchenette.
We'd prefer not to be in motel setting, rather a cabana or apartment. Would like to spend roughly 50-60 a night

We are looking at Coconut Tree, Delzies Appartments, Ricky's Cabin &
Coconut Tree Vacation Rentals
Delzies Apartments - Beach Apartments and Residential Area Apartments
Roatan Vacation Rental - Cabin

Anyone have any advise?

You can read my review of my stay at Coconut Tree Cabins from my recent trip report that I posted. Yeah...the roosters are a problem all over West End...I don't think they are limited to the Coconut Tree Cabins. Maybe you could bring a wrist rocket - or if you are a opposed to justifiable violence against poultry, earplugs. One good thing about the CT Cabins is that you can shoot right over to your place after diving to use the restrooms, take a shower, etc. It was very convenient.

Although I didn't stay there, Casa del Sol looked good and it fits within your price range and comes with a kitchenette.

Let us know what you decide and how it works out for you.

I was in Roatan for 2 weeks in June 2007, and we stayed at Hidden Garden Cabins.

Roosters got you down? Wait 'til you hear a 2-pound piece of tropical fruit hitting a metal roof at 3:00 a.m. Actually the cabins are pretty nice, with kitchenette and fans (but no A/C). They are also reasonably priced, but off the beaten path. I'm not sure any place in West End qualifies as "quiet", though. Not sure if you need A/C in February.

Anyway, my trip report is here (with a section on Hidden Garden Cabins):

Check out Posada las Orquideas, which is just north of West End proper. You could dive with Sea Grape Plantation divers, right next door. Both places are on Mahogany Bight, which is just north of Half Moon Bay. Maybe a 10 minute walk from bight to bay. Sea Grape Plantation also is a resort and their units face the ocean. Much breezier, open and quieter for either place.

West End Village itself is more protected and many parts of it can get closed off by vegetation, so it gets less of the breezes (in places). We've been there a couple of mid-Marches now. No need for a/c in Feb at Orquideas would be my opinion. If you want to be closer in to West End, try Posada Arco Iris (family connected to Orquideas). We liked the rooms a lot at both Posadas, great rates at either place. (I might opt for a/c at Arco Iris, just for the rooster factor. :eyebrow: ) // ww

Posada Las Orquideas is located on Mangrove Bight. Seagrape (no real need for advance bookings) are about a 2-3min walk from there, Native Sons and Coconut Tree (book in advance) are about 5-7mins

Having said that the names of the bights are ever changing. THe bight the ferry comes in to - Dixon Cove is shortly to have its name changed to Mahogany bight and a cruise ship dock is going in there. But that is a long way from West End so i am really just confusing the issue. That should make things about as clear as the water in Roatan right now!

RT Tickets from SFO to RTB........................... $580.oo
Apartment book at Posada Arco Iris for 8 nights $440.oo

keep an eye out for a trip repport in mid Feb and thanks all for your help.

beth--Is it an upstairs apt? Doesn't matter, they are very nice units, it's a fun place to stay. (Someone's macaw hung out around our upstairs apt when we stayed there.) Very coveniently located close to Sundowner's! You''ll have a great time. // ww

Good choice with Arco Iris and CTD. I was there in September and will be again the week after you.
