Hello,

I am in West Bay for a week of R&R. The weather patterns this week have been really unusual for this time of the year. I've been coming to the island for 10 years. You would think it's October/November based on the waves. West Bay has been very wavy. The water taxis aren't running. I saw one big dive boat trying to make its way around the tip of the island to go to the south side. I went into West End and saw a few divers who had gotten out of a pick up truck. I didn't ask where they went. Thus far I only dove this past Sunday just before the waves picked up. Hope it gets better later in the week.

A side note, West End continues to be a muddy mess. I hope they do finish their road project soon.

Ok. I'll stop whining now. :)

Luck of the draw I guess...there's a tropical disturbance south of Cozumel - probably responsible for the waves & weather patterns of which you speak :depressed:

I've been diving with Native Sons in West End and they took their large boat around to Flowers Bay and for the last couple of days have been driving us over there in the trucks to dive the South side. I'm not sure they normally do that but they've had a number of courses being done and needed to get them finished somewhere conditions were more accommodating. It's been great for me because I've only done the North side for the last 2 weeks and have gotten to see the huge difference between the 2 sides (even found me a seahorse). We did our last South side dive yesterday morning and then they brought the boat back to this side but the vis over here is still pretty miserable (for warm caribbean waters anyways). Weather is supposed to be looking up for the next few days at least.

The mud took some adjusting but we are after all in Central America, even though West Bay doesn't necessarily feel like it. Accept it for what it is, leave the shoes at home and let it squish through your toes. :D Maybe I'm alone here but I literally have not had shoes or a shirt on since day one of my arrival 2 1/2 weeks ago. No shoes, No shirt, No problems. It's one of the things I love most about traveling.

We dive with Native Sons and have always enjoyed the experience. Too bad about the conditions, but it would be good to see the other side, like you say. Bet Tommy likes taking the boat for a long ride. Say hi to everyone at Native Sons from Dave and Jimmy.

Personally I would not really be into the mud squishing between toes thing when it is on the road that is torn up to hopefully someday put in a working sewage system, not done yet, and one the dogs use regularly as a toilet, But hey, thats just me and the worms one may get are usually easilly cured

Yes, it's too bad about all the mud. Have never run into that before when we go and I know the road work and construction was making things pretty dusty. It's too bad the road will bring another set of problems with speeding cars and motorcycles making it difficult for a leisurely walk when it's completed. I heard that that happened on Utila once the paved road was completed the motorized vehicles and cars make it difficult to just take a walk.
