Hey Kids,

I really appreciated all the info that I got from your posts so I wanted to let you all know how the vaca is going.

We arrived today with no problems on Continental, NY - Houston - Roatan. Made a quick stop at the main market in Coxen Hole, not sure if I spelled that correctly (insert your own joke now if needed), got beer and enough food to have a breakfast at Infinity Bay. The place is really nice. Had a drink and light lunch which were really good.

It is really windy today unfortunately so we couldn't hang out on the beach for our first afternoon. Sand was blistering. I did manage to do a 40 minute snorkel right off the beach in West Bay which was great. I saw two of the biggest parrot fish that i have ever seen, the bigger one was probably 2 feet long and 5 inches wide.

We have a bunch of stray cats making noise outside our window, my girlfriend has already started them on a timely meal schedule.

Anyway I hope the weather calms down a touch and I get to dive tomorrow.

Out to dinner and drinks,

T

Thanks so much for taking the time to give us a Roatan "fix"! Hope the wind settles for you and tomorrow is a glorious dive day :D

CATS? You got CATS? I spent 7 weeks in total, spread over three trips, at that beach and never had a cat visiting! I've started to wonder if they eat them there, there is dogs galore everywhere on the island but no cats. Dang, your girlfriend has to be some sort of cat godess. I had severe pet withdrawal syndrome during my divemaster course at BR, and only the odd shop cat to snare for a quick rub. Good for you! Must be the meal schedule. Have fun diving and at that beach! Oh, and try a night snorkel off that beach as well. Head back aiming for the last lights-wrapped palm tree to the left, and you can't go far wrong.

Hi, Coxen Hole was just to provision at the big market although I think you were joking. The girlfriend of our condo's owner drove us from the airport to the market to Infinity bay. We bought mostly just beer, other beverages, and breakfast stuff for girlfriend's "protein omelettes" as she calls them. still can't figure out my favorite beer.

Day 2 update -

The funny and ridiculous island stuff is great, I would never expect everything to be perfect but some highlights are; we have a cutting board but no knives, no cookware but a beautiful kitchen. (we do have 2 small pots with the non-stick coating shredding off at the lightest touch. We do have a wine opener and a pasta grabbing utensil or whatever you call that thing. "fully stocked kitchen" isn't always what you would think. When at the market, Rosy, the owner's girlfriend assured us that we didn't need anything else.

I emailed the owner because his vrbo listing said some great stuff like "fully stocked kitchen" and "cook your own meals". Within a few hours we were greeted by "Rosy" and an Infinity Bay staff member that reeked of pot. Basically we think Infinity Bay raided the place for other units recently. I know it was Sunday so they had limited options for shopping. We now have 6 frying pans, one of which still has the price tag which says 50 lempiras, so basically around $2.50. Still no pots, IB said they would bring some over today. We now have salt and pepper shakers that arrived empty. We also now have about 20 knives, we can now cut limes! Also dropped off a dvd player, I don't even think we have dvd's. We met a couple down here that rented directly through IB and there place is fully stocked, they offered to let us borrow anything needed.

The snorkeling off the beach is awesome, went for over two hours yesterday, also a big wall. Saw big puffers, many turtles, big green moray, trumpet fish, a pod of dolphins said hello, others yet to be identified, giant parrot fish again, this time crazy blue colors. My new toy, mares nemo, was set to free dive for my snorkel, worked great, i accidentally scared a bunch of shore divers when I was below them, the watch said my max depth was 32 feet, i had no idea but knew I was pretty far down checking out a wall.

Scuba today, West End for provisioning and some dive stuff, Utilla-diving-fishing tomorrow.

Oh, another giant sandstorm last night around 6, cleared the beach right out

Tons of cats hanging out by us. apparently someone spays and neuters them but they didn't look to healthy so my girlfriend has been microwaving them eggs which causes a 10-12 cat feeding frenzy.

I'll try to upload some pictures if and when I find the cord. Fun trip so far

thanks for the update - I love reading about IB as we will be there in Oct. That is funny about the kitchen supplies. Its probably hit or miss depending on who you rent through.

Keep up the reports, I really enjoyed them. We'll be at IB in a few weeks as well. Nice to know what to expect.
