I'm planning for a trip in May/June, 2026. Hopefully, there will be a few of you that have tried both resorts and can help with the best choice. Thank you in advance.
Jim

CCV is scuba camp, unsophisticated but very enjoyable for the diver who wants a pure diving vacation.

AKR is a bit more upscale, you can have your diving mixed with a night at the casino, etc.

decisions...decisions.

When alone, I am a CCV dude; with the wife, AKR.

Apples & oranges…what type of dive experience do you want? 🤿

I'm interested in this post for the same reasons as the OP. I've passed through AKR as a stop on a cruise ship but didn't dive. I'm thinking about going back and doing an all inclusive stay with the wife. How far is the casino from AKR (wife)?

On Roatan I've only been to CCV, twice. Not very impressed. Like YMCA camp, foodwise. Dives kind of boring: you go out, do one dive, then are dropped off to dive either the north or south wall of the channel coming back to the resort. In the afternoon, you go out for dive #3, then for dive #4 get dropped off on the other wall. Little wreck at the end of the wall(s) before coming up the endless slope to the resort. I'll be there two weeks early next year, and frankly, I'm not looking forward to it. Viz was NOT good either previous trip.

Mayan Princess is another option.

CCV is for diving vacation. Mayan Princess is vacation with diving.

I haven't been to AKR so I can't speak about them. I've been to CCV twice and loved it both times. It's not fancy, but in a week you can get as much diving in as on a liveaboard. In addition to the daily 2x boat trips, there is unlimited 24-hour shore diving.

The sites you visit by boat are nice. On my first trip the coral was pretty good. On the second trip the coral was not as good, but it was very very fishy.

The swim-home dive experience will depend on how you do it. If you go deep, it's going to be a shorter dive and dark. If you stay shallow you'll see more and have a much longer dive.

CCV is very isolated. You are effectively on an island and need to take a boat to get back to the main part of the island. They do offer land-based activities for folks that aren't diving.
