Hi All,
While I do not have any idea who won what, I did write to the magazine just prior to the start of this thread. The following is the response I received in the last few days. It certainly helped me understand why this review has been so long in coming, and it confirmed the scheduled release to be the October issue. While I do consider this board the absolute best source for reliable "real-life" input, I am curious to see what they have to say. I am looking forward to reading about the many regs and the inevitable discussions that will follow! Rhonda
Hello Rhonda:
Our regulator testing was postponed and delayed (as was all
ScubaLab
testing) when Jon Hardy--ScubaLab's founder and a dear friend to all
of
us at the magazine--died, last August. It took us a couple of months to
find a replacement director and to get the testing on track. At that
point, we had to come up with a new testing schedule. John Brumm
has been
doing the testing since last November, when he tackled the
completion of
the dive computer reviews that Jon Hardy had started before he
became
ill. The reg reviews, which had originally been scheduled for spring,
were delayed. Our newest reg review will be in the October 2002
issue--ScubaLab tested 69 regs, including the Apeks regs (AT20,
ATX50,
TX100, ATX200), which are being distributed by Aqua Lung. As always
and
as expected, the Apeks regs scored very well. Because so many regs
were
tested and because the benchmark has been raised, only the AT20 is
a
Testers' Choice. But, as I said, the other Apeks regs are still excellent
regs.
Thanks for your patience. We had so much information that we didn't
have
room to fit it all in the magazine. Consequently, we'll be running charts
on our web site that will be available the same time the issue is
available.
Best regards,
Pat Wuest
