My wife and I had a cruise booked before getting our SCUBA certification. Since we have completed it we are planning to go on an excursion to the Rhone.

Our concern is what to wear... some folks have suggested a bathing suit and others a full wetsuit (3MM) but none actually have been there in Sep. I was hoping to hear from anyone who may have done this dive in late fall to give a first hand suggestion of appropriate clothing.

Do you mean the Rhone off the British Virgin Islands?

I dove there in May and wore a 3 mil full suit. Warm as heck. If you are used to cold, then a shorty or nothing would be good. If I ever get back to warm water, I'll end up just wearing my shorty.

We dove the Rhone in December (2 years ago) and the water was 79 degrees. We wore 3mm full suits, but we always wear full exposure protection regardless of the water temperature.

I have done it in August and a swimsuit or skin is sufficient. I would only suggest a 3mm if you are really cold natured or will be doing it at the end of a week of 4 or 5 dives a day days.
