Ringing in the ears (tinnitus):

A few years ago (like 6 yrs) I had a bad cold or the flu( can not remeber which it was,i hit it was a cold.) Anyway, during the course of it my ears started to ring. I went to a hearing specialist and, he after tests, stated that thecold had settled in my ears and that they may ring for the rest of my left either all the time or sometimes. And sometimes they do and sometimes they do not. At that time I was thinking about scuba and asked him. he said that it should not be a problem. Anyone have any similar? is it a problem?

If you can equalize your ears and can meet the other physical and psychological requirements, you are a recreational diving certification candidate.

I have the same thing and no problems. I even went to a ENT and he agreed that there should be no problems with diving and tinnitus. Sometimes I have a ringing on descention but nothing major and it goes away really quick.

After Vietnam and 26 years in the Army, I hear lots of ringing. Diving seems to have had no impact at all. Welcome to the club, it is not bad unless you spend too much time thinking about the ringing!
