Is Rig diving considered a tech dive? Being on the Texas Gulf Coast I figured that most of my diving in the future will most likely be Rig diving.

Not by itself. There is a bit of variance as to what "tech" means to different people. For me it means a dive beyond recreational limits (so deeper than 130' or a dive that involves mandatory decompression obligations). A dive on a rig could very well be a tech dive but it could also be a recreational dive.

Maybe my first question should be is what makes a dive a "tech dive"?

To me "Tech" means having specialized training and practical knowledge of skills beyond what a recreational diver has.
