I just bought a Riffe C-0S today (impulse buy) and when I came home and was looking at the Riffe site it looks like it should include 3 power bands. Am I right? Mine came with two 9/16" X 15 bands. Where would you clip on the third band? Does anyone have experience with the gun. I do most of my diving around the Channel Islands here in Southern California (kelp and rocks) so this gun looked right for my situation and I've always heard good things about Riffe guns. Thanks!

Look at the packing list. Maybe there was a packing mistake. Though, I would think that it's more likely the third spot is there as an option for you. You should be able to buy a separate band from any distributor.

I didn't get a packing slip or anything like that. I just got the gun off the rack. They did pull out the bands from the fridge (I guess you're supposed to store that bands there). I'm going back tomorrow to ask.

Riffe shafts have 2 "sharkfin tabs". IF you choose to fire 3 bands you put 2 bands on 1 fin and 1 band on the other (your preference). Alot of divers (myself included) only use 2 bands and use the 3rd (hanging loose) as a spare.
Most of my diving is on the deep side so carrying a spare shaft and band is sort of a necessity.

The third band for this gun is optional & isn't included. I added the third band, but never seemed to need it, as two bands seemed adequate for its range, even with two wraps of line.
Alas, I don't hunt anymore so I sold my Riffe for a very pretty price, but if I were to buy a speargun again I would definitely choose the same brand.
Enjoy!

The c-0s per the Riffe site comes with 3 x 9/16 x 24'' bands. Take the gun back to the shop and they should correct the problem.

Thanks for all the responses. I took it back yesterday and they found the right pack of three bands in the fridge. I like the idea of only using two bands so it looks like I'll be having to spend some more time in the water testing!

if your gun is designed for 3 bands, and you have 3 bands on the gun it is not recomended to only use 1 or two of the bands, and leave the others hanging off of the front of the gun. i was on a hunting trip with jay riffe, a couple of years ago. he was telling us of a lawsuit that had been filed aginst riffe. somehow when the speargun was fired, the shock cord got tangled up with the "spare" band as the shaft cleared the front of the gun and spearshaft was pulled back at the diver, penatrating the side of the divers neck. if you are only going to use 1 or 2 bands, then remove the unused bands from the gun. dive safe, ken
