Hi, I'm considering getting into rebreathers. One of my buddy is selling his unit, an old revo 2 well maintained. It comes qith two SW predator and a revodream hud. It's 2500$ canadian. I'm diving sidemount in OC and supposed to have the unit tested by me with a qualified instructor in a pool. You guys have any thoughts about it, the Revo and stuff? The lung seemed to be fixed to the unit and there is no flooding protection as all the revos.

Cheers,

The Rev 2 is pretty old now although, I believe, it is still supported.

They’re supposed to have a major service, returned to the factory, every five years. I think there’s a US based company that will do the servicing.

With all rebreathers you need to get unit specific training before you dive them.

That appears to be a good price. But…. Be prepared to spend money on the unit as there’s bound to be issues. Cheap rebreathers can be expensive.

Some questions:
  • Can it hold a negative pressure test?
  • How old are the cells?
  • State of the wing?
  • State of the lungs?
  • Cylinders in test?
  • Spares?

You’ll need to find a Revo-specialist trainer for your CCR course.

The US service scene has gotten a bit dicey as of late. DiveTronix (West Coast US) who also does US shearwater support) stopped servicing them recently (or so I've been told). Ocean Edge outfitters (east coast US) appears to have gone out of business (or at the very least stopped paying their web host). Also the north america service center page of rEvo's website appears to have been deleted/corrupted.... I'm not sure who is the primary Canadian service center, hopefully it wasn't either of those two =(

Older, but still good unit. Price looks good. A lot of it is in the details (cylinders included?, in test?, etc.)
From the prices I see Canadians complaining about, I would say that is a good deal.
A good instructor will be able to look it over and advise you of specifics that can only really be discussed after seeing it.

The easy to clean and dry lungs are one of the good things about the rEvo.

One of our local divers spent about an hour on the Phone with Richard from Divetronix which is where we got the news that he is no longer doing rEvo servicing (outside of the shearwater components).
