As a new diver I was hoping to find out if anyone has anything negative to say about the Mares Icon BCD. So far everything i've read has been positive but I would like more info before making a purchase. thanks

I am in the same boat as you. I am hoping to get a chance to go try one on this week. I'll let you know what I think if I do.

I recently had the opportunity to test dive one of these. I'm not a real tester so my opinion may not mean much.

The BC was very minimal, i was feeling sort of naked, very lightweight unit, I had some tank shift right to left, shoulders kind of sagged a bit when I mounted it, I was using an AL 80 and 8 lbs of weight. I also tried the Pegasus and liked that much better, I would say the Icon would would be Ok if diving a skin in the Carribean. Personally I like BCs with a cummerbund and some D-rings. Again just my take from only diving 4 tanks with Icon.

I have used one for at least 20 dives and then shelved it. I am not impressed! The sizes run large so keep that in mind. I find it very unstable in design. Meaning it seems awkward when walking with it on a boat. In the water the trim was fine.

I also hate the way Mares BCDs' ride up, meaning the gap between your shoulders and the BCD shoulder straps when at the surface. I wound up buying a Scuba Pro Knighthawk. It is a million times better. A very solid BCD in comparison and just as slim. I would look into the Knighthawk or Zeagle. The Icon was a big mistake buying now that I look back. I would be very happy to sell you a large Icon with only 20 dives for a very reasonable price. Let the buyer beware.

One vote for a complete thumbs down! I do however like my Mares fins and Nemo Excel :)
