I’m planning on buying one of these units within the next week, but not sure of the advantage of the View. I definitely feel the RLS is worth having for the peace of mind, but, besides showing you “live beacon status and GPS coordinates”, what does the View provide. It sounds like it is additional peace of mind, I just don’t know if that alone is worth the additional $56. I know, small amount for safety, etc, etc, but is it buying additional safety, or just information you can do nothing with?

(Don’t own either, no stake in the outcome, just thoughts.)

Review the manual online to help you decide. IMO, most of what’s on the display is not actionable or more than what’s theoretically available without the display.

But.

It’s communicated in English, rather than color codes or blinks — would you rather be trying to remember which flavor of transmission report is a red blink vs a green blink, or read words on the display? (Or if you are unconscious and your buddy is operating it?) (Think of this similarly to how most police have moved away from 10-codes to plain language.)

The one piece of info the display will give you that’s not available without is to show your position info. Scenarios where this is useful are a bit of a stretch to imagine… but conceivable.

Great information. Just started looking at the manual and it’s pointing out the features. Now, why didn’t I think of that?!

Thanks for the guidance,

Erik

How are you going to take it UW?

Dry Fob. I already use one for my truck keys, both at home and on trips, and it has worked great. So, I see no reason to try something else when I already know of a proven solution.

Also, after taking the advise that @lairdb gave, I read the manual and now know the differences the View will make, so View RSL it will be. Too many sequences to remember, to little brain to drain, lol.

Thanks!!

I just emailed them asking to be a dealer for them in Libya (ACR Electronics). We don't have anything like it here, and I think it would be great to have this kind of tool in Libya.

(Pushing American products in Libya and Africa. I should be made a MAGA chief here lol)

I'm looking at a Resqlink as well. Can I ask why you aren't considering the 450? In addition to the GPS and RLS, it's also got ALS for local, faster response.

450 is almost 8 inches tall (though nicely slim.) Wouldn’t fit in a DryFob, though maybe in a custom tube of some sort. (Is that a pipebomb, or are you just happy to be diving? :eyebrow:)

I hear you - dunno if it'd fit in an XL. I'm liking it because it combines the features of the nautilus and the other resqlink. Throw in a marine radio and all the bases are covered for surfacing and wondering what happened to all the other divers and boats for the past hour or so. A few franklins for a custom tube is worth it to me (YMMV) for that piece of mind.

Of course, I'd probably end up strapping it someplace out of the way and inaccessible because, well, I'd have the time to get out of the gear, grab it, and put the gear back on before I truly decided I needed any of it.

I believe @Jaan (i.e. Dryfob) has a solution that can house the 450 now.
