My Oly C-7070 has recently been pressed into service and I have to same after a number of dives this camera for underwater photography stinks!!!
What configuration/settings do you all use. I have an Oly C-7070, Oly husing, Sea and Sea YS-90 Auto with fiber optic cable and an Ikelite Mini C-4 focus light. Most of my pictures look like they were taken at night without a flash. I turn the camera towards and take a picture to verify the strobe works. The strobe flashs and a nive complete dark picture is recorded. I have tried shutter speeds of 1/80, 1/100, 1/125 and apeture settings between 3.2 and 5.0. The strobe is set at the same range.

I had much the same set up for the C-5060 (which was lost due to flooding). Those pictures came out very good. But with the c-7070 I am not getting any pictures turnign out at all. I do get some thing if I remove the fiber optic and use the internal strobe. I have tried different strobe positions, macro, close ups and panaramic shots with no luck.

Thanks for any suggestions

This is what works for me:

Camera - set to Slave, power 1

Strobe - Auto 2, Slave on

I think Andy is right, the flash is triggering on the preflash....

Agreed, take a photo of a mirror, you should see the flash. If not, you need to turn off the preflash.

Thanks for the reply.

I use the fiber optic cable not ttl. Isn't the slave mode and mathias bulkhead for ttl? I have the internal flash set to "slow". It is the internal flash triggering the strobe.

Thanks

c7070 with inon d2000 in oly case

oly flash is in "always on" mode (not slow) and inon is also in sttl (not sttl slow) mode... there is no circuit breaker (or whatever it's called) installed...

works fine if you ignore slow and awful autofocus and slow read and write of raw files

I'll switch back to Canon now that G9 has a case and raw... oly stinks

Slave on is for fibre optic use, Slave off is for hard wired TTL.

And I think I was lying through my teeth when I said use Auto 2 - I think it is Auto 1
My mistake will conform this shortly .

OK got it

For using fibre optic cable you have 2 options:

Option 1

Camera set to normal flash

Dig deeper into your flash settings, it has slow 1 and slow 2 - I use slow 1 with a fibre optic.

Strobe - Auto 2, Slave "ON"

Option 2

Camera flash set to "Slave"

Strobe - Auto 1, Slave "ON"

Andy

Thanks

I may not have been clear on my set up previously. I do use option 1. I was thinking of the slave control on the c-7070. The slave control on the ys-90auto is set to on.

I do use Option 1 you listed above. I will try Option 2 and see if that works. I don't know if my strobe is flashing too early or late for the pictures. I do know for sure the strobe does flash.

Something else came to mind while rereading this. Set the camera up and shoot a photo "watching" the the camera flash, if it goes off more than once, there is your problem-preflash.
