Yes they normally inspect them for wear and replace if necessary with your say so but I have never had them change them just to change them.

They run $20-$30 each so replacing them every year is a bit cost prohibitive. Normally you can get 10 years out of a hose with proper care (not storing it with tight bends, etc,)

Ok thanks, mine are about 12 yo but "look" brand new - except for very minor corrosion at the connectors, so minor that he may have not even noticed it. I know it's there and it bugs me everytime I have to look at it - I take pride in taking very good care of my gear. I think I will have them put new ones one just to be on the safe side.

Thanks again

Corrosion on the connectors is not a reason to fail a hose. Techs normally look for weather checking, and cuts and cracks in the hose.

But...12 years is long enough that replacing them is not a bad idea as hose failure is becoming more likely. Normally it results is a slight leak, but I have seen them fail fairly spectacularly and I have also seen the threaded ends on older hoses lseparate due to fatique and/or over torquing.

I also will clean hoses, you shouldn't have any green on them when you get them back.

Think this is something I should be able to do myself - replacing hoses? I have taken the Equipment class and can take apart my BC power inflator and put it back together. Or should I leave it to the LDS to replace? thanks again

Replacing hoses is really easy, much easier than rebuilding a power inflator. If you are not comfortable with it dont' do it though. As long as you don't have poseidon regulators hoses are pretty cheap.

Let me know if I can help. If you really are not comfortable with the changing the hoses you can send them to me and I will swap them out to you for free just to help out. I can sell you the hoses or you can buy them and send them to me. Your LDS should also do this if you buy the hoses from them.

Thanks for the offer - but isn't it just taking the old ones off and putting the new ones on? I have an automotive background so I have lots of tools (no scuba specific ones though - some of the automotive ones work well -these are all clean tools). seems like this would require a couple of wrenches. I have a Sherwood Oasis reg. does an O ring go on the hose at the 1st stage or something like aluminum tape like on water faucets or is it just a "press" fit using the threads. I am sure I would figure this out once I got it apart but just want to know what I should have on hand.

The hose comes with o rings, don't "waller" the thing as tight as you can, the o ring's do the work. Slight snug...
